As part of its commitment to enhancing international student services, the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a meeting with Mr. Bram, owner of Bu Darno Homestay, to explore opportunities for providing comfortable, affordable, and culturally enriching accommodation for international students. The meeting brought together representatives of the Faculty of Agriculture UGM and Mr. Bram, whose homestay has hosted numerous international students participating in exchange programs, research internships, summer courses, and other academic activities at UGM.

The discussion focused on identifying accommodation solutions that can support the increasing number of international students coming to the Faculty of Agriculture through exchange programs, research internships, summer courses, and other international mobility initiatives. Particular attention was given to affordability, accessibility, safety, and the overall quality of living conditions to ensure that students can adapt comfortably to their new environment while pursuing their academic activities.

Beyond serving as an accommodation provider, Mr. Bram has been actively involved in creating a welcoming and engaging community for international students. Over the years, he has organized and facilitated various social and cultural activities that help students experience Indonesian culture and build friendships with fellow residents. These activities include Indonesian Independence Day celebrations, group jogging sessions, hiking trips to nearby mountains, movie nights, and other community gatherings. Such initiatives provide students with valuable opportunities to interact outside the classroom, develop intercultural understanding, and create memorable experiences during their stay in Indonesia.

One of the distinctive features of the accommodation is its unique atmosphere inspired by traditional Javanese architecture and aesthetics. The residence incorporates elements of Javanese design, creating a warm, comfortable, and culturally rich environment. The aesthetically designed spaces offer students not only a place to live but also an opportunity to experience local culture in their daily lives. This combination of affordability, comfort, and cultural immersion makes the accommodation particularly attractive for international students seeking an authentic experience in Yogyakarta.

During the meeting, both parties also discussed opportunities to strengthen long-term collaboration and further improve support services for future international students. The Faculty of Agriculture UGM emphasized the importance of reliable accommodation partners in ensuring a positive student experience and supporting the university’s internationalization efforts. Through strategic partnerships with trusted accommodation providers, the faculty aims to create an environment where international students can thrive academically, socially, and culturally.

The Faculty of Agriculture greatly appreciates the contribution of partners such as Mr. Bram, whose support extends beyond accommodation services to fostering a sense of community and belonging among international students. Through collaboration, cultural engagement, and student-centered support, this partnership is expected to further enhance the experience of international students studying at UGM and strengthen the university’s global engagement initiatives.

This activity contributes to the achievement of SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
